Huawei Will Raise Investment in Thailand Next Year to Boost Market Share



(Yicai Global) Dec. 9 -- China’s largest smartphone maker Huawei Technologies Co. is to up investments in Thailand next year to expand its marketing and distribution channels, Thai media reported.

Huawei’s goal is to surpass rival Chinese smartphone maker Oppo Electronics Corp. to become Thailand’s third-largest smartphone supplier.

“We aim to have a double-digit percentage of the smartphone market share in Thailand next year, up from a single-digit level,” said Tossaporn Nisthanon, deputy director of Huawei Thailand’s consumer business group, Bangkok Post reported.

Huawei is the world’s third-largest smartphone maker after Samsung Electronics Co. [KRX:005930] and Apple Inc. [NASDAQ:AAPL].

To boost its market share, Huawei launched its flagship Android-based Mate 9 smartphone in Thailand yesterday, positioning it to compete with Samsung and fill the void left by the Korean Electronics giant’s Galaxy Note 7, which was subject to a global recall after battery malfunctions led to explosions.
