Six Railway Workers Killed in Major Train Accident on Beijing-Guangzhou Railroad



(Yicai Global) Dec. 12 – Six people died when an express freight train crashed into the south station area of Anyang railway station on the Beijing-Guangzhou railroad. All six people killed were railways workers, of whom four were working on the rails, and two railway bureau employees, Xinhua News Agency reported.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident that took place on the section of the railway managed by Zhengzhou Railway Bureau on Dec. 10 and is regarded as a major accident in railway history. Railway transportation safety rules consider accidents leading to the death of more than three people, but less than 10, as major accidents. Accidents of this type are relatively rare on the national railway system, said a source connected to Zhengzhou railway authorities said.
