(Yicai Global) March 30 -- China has applied with WorldSkills International, a group that connects youth with industries and educators to promote excellence and development, to host the organization’s biennial competition in 2021.

The country recommended the event be held in Shanghai, reported Eastday.com, a news portal run by the local government.

The city proposed the motto ‘new youth, new skills, new dreams’ in its bid, a Shanghai government official said during a press conference yesterday.

The competition’s organizing committee will meet in United Arab Emirates’ Abu Dhabi in October and vote to choose a venue. Switzerland’s Basel has also asked to be considered.

There are about 50 events in six categories at the WorldSkills Competition. China has taken part in the last three, winning five gold medals, eight silvers, seven bronzes and 29 prizes.
