Tsinghua University to Enroll 140 Students From Belt and Road Countries in 2017

(Yicai Global) May 13 -- China’s prestigious Tsinghua University will enroll 140 students, a record high, from the Belt and Road countries this year, the university said in a statement. Tsinghua’s announcement coincides with the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation held in Beijing this weekend.

Tsinghua University made nearly 30 presentations and exchange activities in the Belt and Road countries this year as part of its undergraduate recruitment campaign, including in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand, said Gao Hong, deputy academic dean of Tsinghua University in an interview with Xinhua News Agency.

Tsinghua University added "International Affairs and Global Governance" undergraduate training program, established a PhD program on research in developing countries, and set up the international engineering management master program to cultivate more talent for the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. It also organized several training programs related to the initiative.

Tsinghua University and the Chinese-funded enterprises along the Belt and Road will jointly establish more than 30 compulsory overseas social practice projects for doctoral students this year. The first social practice team went to Kenya to participate in the construction of the Mombasa Port-Nairobi railway, Gao added.
