Chengdu Is China's Latest City to Lift Home-Buying Rules to Revive Market Chengdu Is China's Latest City to Lift Home-Buying Rules to Revive Market

(Yicai) April 29 -- Chengdu in southwestern Sichuan province has become the latest Chinese city to have lifted house purchase restrictions to boost market demand.

Chengdu will no longer verify home buyers' qualifications, such as permanent residence, social insurance premium, and number of apartments owned, the city announced yesterday in its first easing of home purchase restrictions since 2016.

Major Chinese cities, such as Changsha, Hefei, Jinan, Nanjing, Qingdao, Shenyang, Suzhou, Wuhan, and Zhengzhou, have lifted house purchase restrictions since last year to promote the healthy development of the real estate market.

Releasing the demand of residents to buy houses and improve their living conditions by easing restrictions will help Chengdu stabilize new and second-hand home prices, provide more choices and higher flexibility to the real estate market, and benefit the long-term and stable development of the housing market, according to the Sichuan arm of the China Index Academy.

On April 26, Nanjing released a new policy allowing people with a legal and stable residence, as well as their spouses and unmarried children, to become permanent residents, which means being able to enjoy social welfare in the city.

By easing its household registration policy, Nanjing will activate its real estate market and attract more people, Yan Yuejin, research director of the E-House China Research and Development Institute, told Yicai.

Changsha in China's central Hunan province eased its house purchase limit on April 18 to give house buyers more favorable mortgage interest rates, cutting the costs of buying houses. Other cities should learn from Changsha, according to experts.
