(Yicai Global) May 8 -- Jordan’s Queen Rania Foundation for Education and Development received the first donation from a Chinese entrepreneur -- USD3 million paid by a charity fund established by e-commerce mogul Jack Ma, executive chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., said the Amman-based charity today.

The money will be spent on joint education initiatives and a teacher and women training program introduced by the foundation, as well as funding internet-based platforms to enable more Arab children to attend online lessons and give refugee children in Jordan, a Middle Eastern country bordering conflict zones, better access to education, online media outlet Huanqiu reported.

Jack Ma also visited Amman, capital of Jordan, where he announced the first stage of the USD3 million donation this week.  He paid a visit to the office of Edraak, a free online education platform supported by the Queen’s foundation. Ma, a former English teacher, has maintained a lifelong commitment to promoting education, Alibaba Group said in a press release.

Founded in 2014, Jack Ma Foundation seeks to raise public awareness about issues related to environmental protection, public health, education and the charity ecosystem, and prod everyone into action to contribute to creating a better world for future generations. It also leads several initiatives that aim to improve schools and teacher-development programs in China’s rural regions.
