(Yicai Global) Oct. 12 -- Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA] officially unveiled its Urban Brain 1.0 smart municipal management system.
The City Brain will form key future infrastructure in Chinese cities.
The system has been on trial run in China's garden city of Hangzhou, in the southeastern economic dynamo of Zhejiang province for one year. City Brain has now taken over control of 128 traffic lights in the city. An ordinary camera enables an understanding of vehicle operations and trajectories, and the program can analyze in real-time massive traffic data, optimize periodic traffic signal changes, and provide real-time analysis and smart allocation of resources for the city's nine million-plus residents to reduce traffic congestion and optimize traffic flow, Securities Times reported on October 11.
City Brain can also perceive traffic accidents and intelligently process their data. In the city's downtown area, the system sounds over 500 alarms on average each day to report major traffic incidents, and has an accuracy rate of 92 percent.
By 2020, City Brain will have become vital infrastructure allowing China's cities to control traffic congestion via the internet, computing and data, said Wang Jian, chairman of Alibaba's technology committee.
