Baosteel Wins Bid for Pakistani Nuclear Power Project in Karachi

(Yicai Global) April 18 -- The nuclear power steel of Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. [SHA:600019] has won the bid for Pakistan's Karachi Nuclear Power Complex project.

The bid-winning material is an important part of the heat exchanger for the nuclear power unit, and is grade-II nuclear equipment steel, Baosteel said on its website yesterday.

After understanding the user needs and repeated communication with the user, the company's marketing staff finally won the order, which is for China's first export of third-generation nuclear power technology.

Baosteel disclosed no further details about the deal.

Since its establishment, Baosteel has produced a variety of nuclear power steel products compliant with grade-I, grade-II and grade-III nuclear equipment safety requirements, which have been widely used in nuclear island primary equipment. It is a major supplier of nuclear power steel in China, the company said.

Public data shows that the Karachi Nuclear Power Complex project is the first million kilowatt-class nuclear power unit exported by China, with a production capacity of 2.2 million kilowatts. Applying domestic ACP-1000 technology, China Zhongyuan Engineering Corp. has undertaken the project which is scheduled to generate electricity by 2020.
