(Yicai Global) Jan. 2 -- Beijing's Shunyi district has cut the ribbon on a test base for autopilot vehicles in its Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park.

The base has a seven-kilometer roadway equipped with special traffic lights, road signs and other smart transport facilities that support operation of autonomous autos, the district government said Dec. 30.

Visitors can apply to drive in the cars.

Shunyi District has several hi-tech industry clusters. Another two testing bases for self-driving vehicles are in the works and slated to go into use in the district in the first half of next year.
