CAAC Mulls More Foreign Flights If Covid-19 Imports Are Held in Check CAAC Mulls More Foreign Flights If Covid-19 Imports Are Held in Check

(Yicai Global) May 27 -- China is now considering allowing more international passenger flights on the condition that imported Covid-19 cases start to come under control, said Li Jian, deputy administrator of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, China News Service reported today.

The CAAC has also sped up the approval of international charter flights to three working days in advance from its previous five to seven days to meet the needs of international traffic.

The move seeks to improve the timeliness and flexibility of international passenger flight planning during epidemic prevention and control, the CAAC stated in the document it issued on May 25. The new measures, which took effect that same day, will remain valid until further notice.

The agency has had an international flight policy of ‘one airline, one country, one route per week’ in place since March 29 to limit international passenger flights to fend off imported infections.

It has also set up a green channel for cargo flight applications to satisfy the needs of freight transport since April and adjusted the time limit for periodic cargo flight permit applications down to one day’s advance application from the earlier 30 days, with submissions accepted around the clock seven days a week.
