(Yicai Global) Oct. 11 -- China National Building Material Group Co. (CNBM) has successfully localized lithium battery membranes, breaking a monopoly previously held by foreign companies.

Its subsidiary Sinoma Lithium Membrane Co. held a promotional forum for the pilot of its first production line in China's eastern Shandong province. The plant is set to output 240 million square meters of membrane a year.

Lithium battery membranes were the last key material to be localized in China, marking CNBM's leadership in research and development, the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council said on Oct. 11.

The membranes are a high value-added material and the toughest technical barrier among lithium battery materials. CNBM will strive to develop the product as a pillar industry and push the development of China's new-energy vehicles plan and new materials sector.
