China Connects World's Largest Floating Solar Farm to Grid

Floating over a flooded former coal mine in China's eastern province of Anhui, the huge 40-megawatt solar farm began operations and was connected to the grid on Wednesday.

The offshore solar power plant, developed by Sungrow Power Supply Co. [SHE:300274], demonstrates how clean energy can be developed with minimal consumption of land resources.

The world's largest floating solar plant shows how idle land can be used for clean energy development.

Many countries have started to study and develop floating solar farms. Their offshore location means they take up little space, and the seawater acts as a natural coolant to improve the efficiency of power generation.

China's first floating solar power plant was built in China's central province of Hubei. A 20-megawatt plant was also completed in Huainan, Anhui province last year.

The new solar plant is the largest floating solar farm in the world.
