(Yicai Global) Apr 18 -- The 2018 China International Import Expo will support Shanghai’s renewed efforts to comprehensively open up, said the eastern city’s Party Secretary Li Qiang at a preparatory meeting, adding that, Shanghai, the country’s largest city, should look to magnify the driving and spillover effects of the expo with the promotion of Shanghai Shopping brand, an effort to develop the city into a hub for the distribution of imported goods across the country and Asia.
The China International Import Expo is the world’s first national-level expo that focuses on imports and is a pioneering undertaking in the history of international trade. Shanghai will be the host city for the expo in November and President Xi Jinping is expected to attend.
Li also highlighted the major significance of the event, adding that it could bring great opportunities for the city and country alike. Shanghai should look to strengthen its links with the Yangtze River Delta region to ensure a successful inaugural event and to spread the benefits that the expo will bring across the region, Li added.
The city will place great emphasis on exhibition services, including facilitating customs clearance beforehand, he said.
During the expo, the city should ensure the fair’s smooth progress and look to build a “smart expo” model as a launchpad for new technology and products, as well as purchasing and trading services.
