China's IT Industry Is Told to Build Ties with Communist Party; Baidu Employs 3,600 CPC Members

(Yicai Global) Oct. 27 -- Internet companies must step up Party-building efforts in order to ensure the healthy development of the Internet industry and the consolidation of the foundation of the ruling party, state media yesterday reported Mr. Ren Xianliang, deputy director of the Cyberspace Administration of China, as saying.

China's biggest search engine Baidu Inc. [NASDAQ:BIDU] employs 3,600 Communist Party of China members and Beijing Jingdong Century Trading Co. [NASDAQ:JD], operator of one of China's largest business-to-consumer online platforms JD.com, has 2,086, the cyberspace regulator recently revealed.

Other leading Internet companies such as Leshi Internet Information and Technology Corp., operator of LeEco, Weibo Corp. [NYSE:WB], Qihoo 360 Technology Co. and Sohu.com Inc. [NASDAQ:SOHU] employ 396, 304, 237 and 232 Party members respectively.
