China Mainland Stocks Gain on Telecoms, Chipmakers

(Yicai Global) Dec. 24 -- Chinese mainland equities closed higher today, spurred by an advance in technology stocks.

Shares of communication equipment, electronics manufacturing, semiconductor and component makers led the gains, with more than 20 stocks gaining by the upper limit of 10 percent.

The Shanghai Composite Index finished 0.43 percent higher at 2,527.01 points, with CNY85.8 billion (USD12.4 billion) worth of shares changing hands. The Shenzhen Composite Index ended up 0.75 percent at 7392.56. Turnover was CNY127.5 billion. The Growth Enterprise Market Index closed at 1284.33 points, up 1.1 percent, with CNY41.4 billion traded.

Stocks related to asset management, industrial park development and media fell the most.

Fluctuations are to expected to widen in the short-term, investment firm Wealth Securities said on its website.
