(Yicai Global) May 31 -- China's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index has dropped into contraction territory, paring 0.7 percentage point from the previous month to 49.4 in May, according to new data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
The subcategory of new orders performed the worst, falling 1.6 points from April, signaling slowing demand.
The index stood at 50.5 in March. A number above 50 in either index indicates expansion, a figure below 50 suggests contraction.
