China's NDRC, UN's European Economic Commission Pledge to Push Public-Private Partnerships

(Yicai Global) May 17 -- He Lifeng, the director of China's National Development and Reform Commission, and Christian Friis Bach, the executive secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Public-Private Partnership collaboration on One Belt, One Road (OBOR) construction during the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, per a statement published today on the NDRC's website.

The memorandum will help UNECE establish a PPP framework system, screen PPP case studies, create a OBOR PPP expert list and set up a OBOR discussion mechanism.

The NDRC's Investment and Western Regional Division met with the UNECE International PPP Centre of Excellence on May 15. (The Tsinghua University PPP Center and the China International Engineering Consulting Corporation also attended the gathering). The NDRC and UNECE's PPP center said they will accelerate efforts to form work programs, work together to achieve substantial progress as soon as possible, and give full play to PPP's positive role in OBOR development.
