(Yicai Global) April 27 -- The planning and design of 30 square kilometers of Xiongan New Area's promoter region, encompassing 57 villages, will be open for global tender, said Niu Jingfeng, deputy director of Xiongan's Preparatory Committee.
Hebei Province, which will host China's next special economic zone, has set up a planning and construction lead group for the new area headed by both the provincial party secretary and governor, Niu said yesterday at the zone's first press conference. The key tasks to be performed in the near future have been arranged, he said.
The Communist Party of China's Hebei Provincial Committee has set up temporary party committee and preparatory committee for the new area to take charge of the work related to personnel, party affairs, and social stability of Xiongxian, Rongcheng, and Anxin Counties and has begun to exercise the rights of planning, construction, and land management.
In addition, Xu Qin, former mayor of Shenzhen, was elected governor of Hebei Province at the Hebei Provincial People's Congress on April 26.
In early April 2017, China's central government decided to set up Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province. The plan covers three counties -- Xiongxian, Rongcheng, and Anxin -- as well as the surrounding areas.
The initial area covers about 100 square kilometers to help ease the non-capital functions of Beijing, adjust and optimize the urban layout and spatial structure of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, and cultivate innovation to become the new engine of development. Xiongan New Area will be another zone with national significance following Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shanghai Pudong New Area.
