China's No. 1 Train Maker Wins Biggest-Ever Australian Subway Train Order

(Yicai Global) Nov. 28 -- CRRC Corporation [SHE:601766], China's largest railroad engine maker, said a group made up of its wholly owned unit CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. and some Australian companies has signed a AUD2 billion (USD1.46 billion) contract with Australia's transport department to build a High-Capacity Metro (HCMT) project in Victoria State.

CRRC Changchun will receive 45 percent of the contracted amount, Beijing-based CRRC said in a statement on Nov. 26. The project includes producing 65 high-capacity metro trains in Victoria over the next six years, as well as the construction of vehicle maintenance venues located in the east of Pakenham and Calder Park, suburbs of Melbourne. CRRC Changchun will design and make all the vehicles.
