(Yicai Global) Sept. 11 -- China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the country's top macro-economic planner, will accelerate policy-making for the smart vehicle sector and increase supervision over the accountability of public road tests and drivers, state-owned news agency Xinhua quoted Wu Wei, head of the commission's industrial coordination department, as saying at an international automotive forum held in Tianjin from Sept. 8 to 10.

Expedited work on legislation will also include the establishment of an independent standards system for smart traffic infrastructure and the formation of mandatory standards and specifications for links affecting vehicle and data security, Wu added.

The NDRC has also started drafting national smart vehicle innovation development strategies, which aim to create guidelines for the country's smart vehicle sector.

Regulators will also "incorporate key technologies and technological projects into its national plans as soon as possible in order to make progress in core technologies like laser radar, high-accuracy sensors, and cloud technology platforms to meet demands for high-level smart vehicles," he said.

"The development of smart vehicles represents a general trend and a key opportunity for China's auto industry," Wu added. Artificial intelligence will bring substantial changes to people's lifestyles and major changes in global industries will also be intensively applied to smart vehicles.
