China's Stock Markets Close up After China-US Trade Agreement

(Yicai Global) Dec. 16 -- Investors drew encouragement from the China-US trade agreement struck on the weekend to boost Chinese stock markets to a higher close.

The Shanghai Composite Index ended 0.06 percent higher at 2,969.52 at the lunch break. The Shenzhen Component Index wound up at 10,085.88, 0.81 percent higher. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks Shenzhen-listed growth enterprises, rose 0.61 percent to 1,766.19.

The US and China have agreed on the text of a phase-one economic and trade agreement based on the principle of equality and mutual respect and reached a consensus that the US will phase out the tariffs it added on Chinese products, the Chinese government announced on Dec. 13.
