(Yical Global) May 31 -- China's telecom operators are at last delivering on their promises to lower international roaming charges.
From June 1, China Unicom Ltd. [NYSE:CHU] will slash its international roaming fees by an average of 72 percent for 116 countries. China Mobile Ltd. [NYSE:CHL], the nation's biggest mobile phone operator, is poised to make similar reductions to China Unicom's in the near future.
China's telecom carriers have consistently said that international roaming fees were high because operators outside the county decided them. China Unicom was the first to announce the changes in this round of massive reductions, as the company was able to cut prices after talks with overseas counterparts.
