(Yicai Global) Oct. 13 -- The long-term goal of the LeSEE super vehicle brand, owned by Leshi Internet Information and Technology Corp. [SHE:300104], is "to build a top-notch automatic driving system enabling China to lead the world in the development of artificial intelligence," its vice president said in a recent interview with Yicai Global.
Mr. Ni Kai believes that China will be among the first countries to popularize driverless vehicles. He noted that the country leads the world in the research and development of self-driving technologies, and the government has actively devised various standards, enacted relevant laws and issued rules to accelerate the advance of self-driving technologies. Moreover, Chinese car owners are much more open to the idea of self-driving vehicles than those in other countries.
"Self-driving technologies can free people's hands and provide a better experience for users," Mr. Ni saod. "But they can't replace human functions entirely."
Mr. Ni said his company is not looking at automatic driving purely from a technological standpoint. "LeSEE has completed a layout for the entire industrial value chain in the fields of R&D, manufacturing, sales, Internet of vehicles, intelligent driving, charging strategy, after-sales service, car sharing and socialized operation of smart Internet electric automobiles," he said.
LeEco's Yidao Yongche Co. and Leshare.org provide big data support for self-driving R&D -- application scenarios with which traditional automakers are unequipped.
