(Yicai Global) May 2 - China's domestic tourist numbers grew 9 percent annually over the three-day-long May Day public holiday to 147 million, with most drawn by car trips or bus tours.
With the rising headcount this year, online and offline tourism operators collected a 10-percent increase in revenue at CNY87.2 billion (USD13.7 billion), said Beijing-based research institute China Tourism Academy. City tours, eco-tourism, and rural trips were the most popular, and thus most trips were carried out by automobiles or buses.
Travel safety has improved compared to last year, with the number of accidents dropping by 31 percent. Casualties decreased by 42 percent with one accident involving 5 fatalities.
