Chinese Food Delivery Website Launches Ride-Hailing Service in Nanjing

(Yicai Global) Feb. 14 -- Meituan.com, Beijing Sankuai Technology Co.'s food delivery and group-buying website, has introduced services in China's eastern city of Nanjing and is applying for a ride-hailing license.

With the Meituan app, users in Nanjing can access the car-sharing service and can make payment using UnionPay cards, WeChat Wallet or QQ Wallet. The internet company's Chief Executive, Wang Xing, will personally lead the ride-hailing business, online media outlets reported.

The Beijing-based group-discount site plans to expand its ride-hailing services to other cities, but additional information on specific regions and dates is not available. Meituan.com is entering a market dominated by Didi Chuxing, which acquired Uber Technologies Inc.'s China assets.
