(Yicai Global) Jan. 12 -- Hot Mom College, an e-commerce platform derived from a popular parent and child television show, has closed its A-round financing for millions of dollars and will use the funds to maintain its online community, expand its content network and develop its sales channels.
Lightspeed China Partners was the sole investor in the round, online news outlet 36Kr reported.
Women are a major part of the consumer market, said Yang Tao, assistant partner at Lightspeed China. His firm thinks highly of Hot Mom College’s content production and expects it will have profitable intellectual properties for years to come.
Hot Mom College originated as a variety show aired on China United Television four years ago, and is still broadcast now. Its million-strong community, influenced by key opinion leaders, wound up starting an online community.
Key opinion leaders, or KOLs, are online celebrities who use their status to endorse and promote products. The e-commerce platform has signed with more than 200 such internet stars across a range of industries.
Hot Mom College makes money through sales, advertisements, intellectual property licenses, and fans. Once the IPs were formed, their value became multidimensional, said founder Li Huan.
