(Yicai Global) May 8 -- China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) is working with 19 countries along the One Belt, One Road route on 50 projects, a CNPC executive said.
CNPC has constructed infrastructure and built oil and gas transport channels in central Asia, between China and Russia, between China and Myanmar, and offshore ones.
This has formed an oil and gas supply network linking China and foreign countries and benefiting several nations, Wang Dongjin, deputy general manager of CNPC and president of Petrochina Company Limited [SHA:601857], said at a State Council Information Office press conference on May 5.
CNPC is engaged in charity programs in almost all the countries covered by the Belt and Road in which it has oil and gas cooperative projects, directly benefiting more than 2 million people, Wang noted.
For example, in Kazakhstan, the CNPC-controlled company in Aktobe contributes 70 percent of local tax revenue and provides more than 30,000 jobs. The company has also built Kazakhstan's largest modern vegetable greenhouse to ensure local citizens enjoy fresh vegetables in the freezing winters.
On Maday Island, where the China-Myanmar crude oil pipelines start, residents lacked roads and electricity and drank rainwater, Wang said. With the help of CNPC, roads now connect five villages on the island, every household has electricity, and over 3,000 households get pure water from a reservoir.
