Domestic Tourism Over China's Labor Day Weekend Soars 14% to 134 Million Trips

(Yicai Global) May 2 -- The number of tourists travelling during China's three-day Labor Day weekend leapt to 134 million this year, up 14.4 percent from a year earlier, according to figures from China National Tourism Administration.

Revenue from domestic tourism over the holiday increased 16.2 percent to CNY79.1 billion (USD11.5), pointing to strong momentum in China's tourism sector.

During this year's long weekend, scenic area tours were replaced with more diverse trips, such as tours of villages, state-owned news agency Xinhua quoted Hou Zhengang, spokesperson for the CNTA, as saying, while regions close to cities and ancient tours remained popular.

Popular attractions were museums, zoos, botanical gardens, beautiful villages and cultural streets were all prevalent destinations, Hou added, saying that picking fruits and visiting gardens were some of the more common activities.
