Environment Ministry Unveils Seven Initiatives for Air Pollution Prevention This Winter and Spring

Yicai Global) Nov. 7 -- China's air pollution is set to become severe in the coming period, and China's environmental protection ministry has announced that it has enacted seven measures to strengthen heavy air pollution prevention this winter and next spring to ensure that emissions from heavy industries such as thermal power generation, steel, cement and plate glass reach standards.

The ministry further said it would also accelerate the rate of progress in controlling bulk coal combustion pollution in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and its environs and accelerate the shift to cleaner energy alternatives while implementing the work of transition to clean energy in areas where this is still incomplete. It will also intensify prevention and control of industry peak production, automobiles and its supervision and enforcement targeting mobile polluting sources.

Since the second half of September, under the influence of unfavorable meteorological conditions, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and its surroundings have already experienced several rounds of severe pollution which have aroused widespread public concern.
