Fifth Transformers Film Brings In USD229.6 Million in China, Less Than Its Predecessor(Yicai Global) July 25 -- The release of Transformers: The Last Knight ended in mainland China yesterday.
The film took in USD229.6 million (CNY1.459 billion) at the box office -- CNY1.548 billion after online service fees, per preliminary statistics from Pf.maoyan.com.
The fifth Transformers movie brought in fourth most among films in mainland China this year after The Fate of the Furious (CNY2.671 billion), Kung Fu Yoga (CNY1.753 billion) and Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back (CNY1,656 million). The film also ranked fourth on mainland China's all-time imported film box office list behind The Fate of the Furious, Furious 7 (CNY2.427 billion) and Transformers: Age of Extinction (CNY1.977 billion).
The Last Knight's ticket sales were much lower than expected in China and in North America, where it pulled in USD127 million -- less than half of what its predecessor raked in.
