(Yicai Global) Sept. 6 -- China recently held a meeting for the Henan Zhengzhou-Luxembourg Air Silk Road, during which attendees finalized a special project list for the Air Silk Road for this year and next.
The Air Silk Road is an air transport program connecting European country Luxembourg with Henan province in central China.
The list includes projects to open intercontinental direct passenger routes from Zhengzhou to Luxembourg, build a Cargolux Airlines International SA transit center in Asia, set up duty-free shops at Zhengzhou Airport, to establish European bank branches in Henan province and to set up a 72-hour visa-free transit program at Zhengzhou Airport, Henan Daily reported on Sept. 6.
Zhengzhou will become a national central city and international hub in 2025. The Air Silk Road plan shows that Luxembourg and the Chinese city could become a logistics and distribution base for Asia, Europe and America, pushing Cargolux Airlines' annual throughput at Zhengzhou to exceed a million tons.
Cargolux ran 437 flights in Zhengzhou this year, with the capacity to handle up to 80,000 tons of cargo. It hopes to see annual cargo handling capacity rise to more than 150,000 tons this year, the report added.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said China will fully support the Air Silk Road when he met with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel on June 14 this year.
