(Yicai Global) June 17 -- Huachang Chemical, a Chinese hydrogen fuel cell developer, will work with a domestic company that makes buses and one that runs a fleet of them to showcase the production and operation of hydrogen-powered models.

It will work with Higer Bus and Jiangsu Gangcheng Automobile Transportation to develop cost-effective and practical fuel cell-powered auto parts and complete vehicles, the Jiangsu province-based company said in a statement. The partners aim to demonstrate the running of five such vehicles this year and 100 next year. No financial details were given.

Hydrogen is regarded as one of the world's most promising clean energy sources and turned up in China's government work report this year for the first time. The country aims to have up to 10,000 fuel cell vehicles on the roads next year and 2 million by 2030.

Huachang Chemical is half way through testing hydrogen fuel cell power generation and is preparing a small-batch test production line. It has also produced fuel cell prototypes, which can be used for tests, it said.
