Huawei's Graphene Li-ion Batteries Lifespan Doubled by Watt Lab, First of Their Kind in Industry
(Yicai Global) Dec. 1 -- A major breakthrough in the lithium battery industry has been made by Watt Lab in making the first long-lifespan graphene-assted Li-ion battery able to withstand high temperatures. The lab affiliated to the Central Research Institute at China's largest smartphone maker Huawei Technologies Co.Research results show that the new graphene-based heat-restant technologies developed by Huawei can increase the upper limit on temperature, under which Li-ion batteries remain functional, by 10°C, NetEase Technology reported.The lifespan of the graphene-assted Li-ion batteries will also be twice as long as that of ordinary Li-ion batteries.In high-temperature regions, outdoor base stations powered by graphene-assted high-temperature Li-ion batteries can have working lifespans of over four years, Huawei said.These batteries can also ensure a high mileage for electric vehicles per charge in high temperatures and guarantee the safe operation of drones, which often generate a significant amount of heat.
