(Yicai Global) Sept. 19 -- Preserving know-how and gathering data are the overriding challenges facing industrial internet companies, according to the chief strategist at Foxconn Industrial Internet, the communications equipment unit of the world's largest electronic components maker.
“Today’s production line knowledge and experience is mostly stored in the minds of the operating staff,” Yao Zhongyou said at a Young AI Scientists forum held yesterday at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. “How to effectively preserve these people’s experience using AI (artificial intelligence) and how to build a model in the meantime are the key points.”
Foxconn Industrial Internet has grown 50-fold in the past 15 years, Yao said, adding that the company must thoroughly embrace AI technology, while adopting automation in all aspects of the industrial ecosystem from production to management.
The Shenzhen-based firm, which is a unit of Taiwan's Foxconn Technology Group, is pushing to create more automated production processes, and thus set up a related subsidiary Industrial AI System in Silicon Valley in July.
The World Artificial Intelligence Conference, a three-day smart tech event held in Shanghai, wraps up today.
