(Yicai Global) Feb. 19 -- Chinese e-commerce giant JD.Com will pare the top layer of its chiefs this year in order to enhance its corporate governance.

JD.Com will lay off one-tenth of its senior executives above the vice president level, or those who rank the worst in the upcoming business performance assessment of 2019, in an effort to better allocate resources and aim for quality growth, Sina Tech website reported today, citing the Beijing-based company.

An unnamed insider source who got to know about the intentions at the firm's annual meeting last weekend leaked the news first to Tencent Holdings' QQ website. The measure is expected to restore entrepreneurship and initiative and solve various organizational problems, according to QQ's report.

JD.Com has 180,000 employees and the number of chiefs above the VP level is estimated to be in the range of tens to 100.
