(Yicai Global) July 14 -- Midea Group Co. [SHE:000333], China's largest private home-appliance maker, is to partner with Huawei Technologies Ltd., the world's largest telecoms equipment maker, in the field of smart homes.
The partnership will connect Midea's smart home system M-Smart with Huawei's Hilink app that controls its consumer-business terminal products.
The two companies will also carry out in-depth cooperation on the next generation of Internet of Things chips, artificial intelligence and other areas.
Xiaomi, another Chinese smartphone maker, is also co-operating with Midea and two years ago invested CNY1.27 billion (USD189.93 million) in the firm. The two companies work together in the fields of smart homes and mobile Internet.
Midea has always had an open attitude towards cooperation in its smart home business and does not see it necessary to limit itself to working with just one partner.
Recently the company has spent heavily on overseas mergers and acquisitions as part of its globalization strategy. This year it agreed to buy Japanese electronics giant Toshiba Corp.'s white goods business and German company Kuka Robotics Corp., the world's fourth-largest robotics company.
