(Yicai Global) Jan. 20 -- Chinese passengers predominantly use their mobile phones to purchase travel tickets, an official from China's Ministry of Transport said in a press briefing about this year's Spring Festival transport measures. 24 provinces have completed a ticketing network system for intercity buses, making it more convenient for travelers to purchase tickets in different locations.
Analysis of network data and information from an online survey, which was carried out by a third-party agency, shows that 14 percent of Chinese passengers are traveling for leisure during this year's Spring Festival season, higher than in previous years. Visits to relatives and friends still claim the biggest slice, 78 percent, said Wang Shuiping, a department of transport services inspector, during the press briefing held yesterday.
Hubs, such as Beijing South Railway Station, Beijing West Railway Station, Shanghai Hongqiao Station, Guangzhou South Railway Station and Shenzhen North Station, have the highest passenger density.
The period before and after the Spring Festival is a season of mass migration in China every year. During this period, the transport demand reaches its peak and it is often difficult to get a ticket for long-distance rail travel. The 2017 Spring Festival travel rush began on Jan. 13 and will continue through Feb. 21.
