Northern and Central China Come Under Heavy Air Pollution

(Yicai Global) Nov. 16 -- Massive air pollution is expected to cover parts of central and northern China from today to Nov. 20,according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

The China Environmental Monitoring Center predictsheavy pollution willlastforat leastfour days in Beijing, Tianjin, central and southern Hebei province, northern Henan province, western Shandong province and central and southern Shanxi province. Severe pollutionisexpected in somecitiesin the said regions.

Beijingissued anorange pollution warning for 8.00 p.m.today and will activate orange warning response measuresas ofmidnight. Earthwork, construction, demolition, concrete pouring, construction waste transportation and other such activities havebeensuspended.

Dust control measures have beenintroducedat building sites, open grounds and stacking sites.Construction waste, dregs and gravel transportation vehicles arebannedfrom operating on any road, except forclean-energy vehicles.Production suspension and restrictions will be imposedonrelevantenterprises following the orange warning.

The same warning level was also issued in Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Xingtai, Hengshui and Handan in Hebei province, and Jiaozuo, Anyang, Xinxiang and Pingdingshan in Henan province.

The ministry said it had sent inspection teams to supervise the implementation of heavy air pollution response measuresin line with thepollution forecasts.
