(Yicai Global) May 8 -- The board of directors at the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has elected Yi Gang, governor of central bank, the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), as its director.
Yi was also voted into the BIS’ Basel Committee on Banking Supervision at a meeting of bank presidents held in Basel, Switzerland from May 6 to 7, PBOC said on its website today.
The BIS is an international financial institution owned by central banks which develops international monetary and financial cooperation, essentially acting as a bank for central banks.
Yi attended a senior-level roundtable meeting on financial stability, conferences on emerging market economies and global economic conditions, as well as meetings of the BIS Economic Consultative Committee and board of directors, where he engaged in discussions regarding international economic and financial market trends and macroeconomic policies with his foreign counterparts, PBOC noted.
