(Yicai Global) Sept. 10 -- Power Construction Corp. of China signed the Syvash 250 megawatt wind power project engineering procurement and construction contract with Norway’s NBT in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev on Sept. 6 as President of Ukraine Petro Oleksiyovych Poroshenko and Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide looked on.

NBT, which is investing in the wind farm, acquired the Syvashenergoprom in Kherson, Ukraine in April, its website states. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is leading the financing. A joint venture of PowerChina and its affiliate PowerChina Fujian Electric Power Engineering is the EPC contractor.

The project, which is subject to EU standards, comprises 64 sets of Nordex 3.9 turbines designed for light and moderate wind locations with total installed capacity of 250 Megawatts. It lies beside Syvash Lake in South Ukraine. Ground-breaking starts today and construction will end Dec. 31 next year. The project will become Europe’s biggest wind farm lining a service roadway upon completion.

The installation will create many new jobs for the huge eastern European nation and feed more than one-third of energy demand in the Kherson region, thus greatly improving the local power supply, Poroshenko said.
