(Yicai Global) March 3 -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has called in tech giant Baidu Inc. [NASDAQ:BIDU] after a mobile search malfunction affected millions of user searches.
A bug in Baidu's latest software update led to its servers suspending services, the ministry said yesterday. The company immediately resolved the issue.
Baidu's mobile search malfunctioned three days ago when it stopped displaying search results. The problem was fixed and service restored 42 minutes later. During that time, millions of searches were affected.
The ministry said it has issued an urgent notice to other key players, including Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA] and Tencent Holdings Ltd. [HKG:0700], advising they learn from the incident.
