(Yicai Global) Sept. 13 -- Authorities in Chinese cities Tianjin and Xian have warned Beijing-based bike-sharing platform Coolqi users to be wary of the firm not refunding deposits in a timely manner.
Tianjin Municipal Transportation Commission met with the head of Coolqi’s Tianjin branch on Sept. 11, but the discussion did not go as well as planned. The bike-sharer blamed not refunding deposits quickly on system upgrades, but was unable to say when these upgrades would be completed or when they could refund users’ money, Tianjin Daily reported.
Xian Municipal Administration for Industry and Commerce also spoke with a local branch head on Sept. 12. The Xian branch head blamed the delay in refunding deposits on a large volume of requests coming in a short period of time and a network system failure at head office. He promised the firm would arrange for deposits to be repaid within 15 days from the date it received the refund application, local news portal CN West reported.
On Aug. 26, Coolqi said in a statement that its system was unstable because it was adding new features, and this would delay deposit refunds. On Aug. 30, it issued another statement advising a senior chief technical officer and tech team would be joining the company and the problems should be resolved in September.
However, complaints about delayed refunds are still on the rise this month, which led to Tianjin and Xian governments speaking with local Coolqi leaders.
Users in Xian managed to get back their deposit after complaining through CN West, but there has still been no progress for users in Tianjin.
