(Yicai Global) Jan. 12 -- Visual China Culture Development Co. struck content deals with two leading Chinese internet firms today.
The Jiangsu-based firm penned agreements with search provider Sogou Inc. and a platform under social media operator Weibo Corp., it said in a statement.
Under the first deal, Visual China will open up its full repository of copyrighted images to Sogou users. In return, the search giant will display the content provider’s images more prominently on its results pages.
Sogou, founded in 2004, is backed by Chinese internet behemoth Tencent Holdings Ltd. and is the country’s second largest search engine behind Baidu Inc. It has more than 500 million active users.
Visual China will supply Weibo’s partner, a Beijing-based short video platform, with images, videos and music.
Two years ago, Visual China bought out its biggest rival Corbis Images, which Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates set up.
