(Yicai Global) Jan. 9 -- Internet healthcare service provider We Doctor Group and the Shenzhen municipal government have launched Shenzhen We Doctor Internet Hospital, the southern Chinese city's first online hospital, Yicai Global has learned.
The facility will enable local residents to access online health services such as outpatient appointments, remote consultations, diagnoses, prescriptions, drug delivery and health management without leaving home, We Doctor Group Chairman and CEO Liao Jieyuan said in an interview with Yicai Global.
"In the near future, starting with Shenzhen's Bao'an district, ward rounds at the online hospital may be performed by doctors from well-known hospitals in Beijing or Shenzhen rather than local doctors through electronic medical records sharing and videoconference facilities," said Liao.
Shanghai-based We Doctor has launched 17 internet hospitals across China since December 2015. Its shareholders include Goldman Sachs, Chinese internet giant Tencent Holdings Ltd., and investment company Fosun Group.
Genuine online-offline collaboration has been achieved at the online hospital at Shenzhen We Doctor Internet Hospital, which is connected with the city's healthcare information platform, Luo Yuexuan, director of Shenzhen Healthcare and Family Planning Commission, the local healthcare authority, said at the opening ceremony.
Shenzhen We Doctor Internet Hospital, set up with the Shenzhen government, will open a bricks-and-mortar medical center managed by dedicated full-time directors and general practitioners. The regional healthcare information system will be connected with the hospital's platform, and high-quality medical resources in China and overseas will be introduced to Shenzhen through the platform.
