(Yicai Global) Aug. 29 -- Leading Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has recently brought on board natural language processing expert Wang Bin as part of efforts to boost its artificial intelligence development.
Wang joins the Bejing-based firm as chief scientist at the company's NLP laboratory, Xiaomi said in a press release.
Xiaomi has consistently ramped up investment in artificial intelligence (AI) technology development in recent years and attracted several top Chinese and foreign AI specialists. It spent CNY10 million in April to found its AI lab jointly with Wuhan University.
Wang, 46, holds a Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and is recognized as a leading figure in natural language processing research in the country. He previously worked as a professor and doctoral tutor at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He will oversee NPL infrastructure construction and cutting-edge technology explorations and innovations at the company, Xiaomi disclosed in a press release yesterday.
