(Yicai Global) July 19 -- Xingmin Intelligent Transportation Systems (Group) will cooperate with Spreadtrum Communications, one of China's major Internet of Things chip developers, to develop Internet of Vehicles technology and its applications.
The company inked the Strategic Cooperation Agreement with Spreadtrum Communications on July 18, Xingmin Intelligent Transportation Systems (Group) based in eastern China's Shandong province announced yesterday.
The parties will jointly establish a laboratory for IOV technology to develop new products, the announcement said, and they will hasten their collaborative study of research projects related to LTE-V and 5G IOV technology, and advance their functional product design and hardware product development, while exploring various application scenarios for the technology's development.
Long-term evolution, or LTE, is a high-speed wireless communication standard for mobile devices and data terminals, public information shows. LTE-V simply adds 'for vehicles' to this formulation. "LTE-V makes urban transport safer and more efficient by allowing vehicle-vehicle, people-vehicle, and vehicle-network communications over the operators' existing networks," as China's Huawei Technologies defined it, UK technology news site Telecoms reported.
Spreadtrum Communications will provide 4G communication module solutions for Xingmin Intelligent Transportation Systems in the field of 4G IOV, and help the latter develop 4G IOV terminals and low-speed IOT terminals to form complete solutions, per the announcement.
The two will sign a specific service and development agreement that will determine their future cooperative projects, the announcement added.
Xingmin Intelligent Transportation Systems is shifting from wheel production to a focus on intelligent networked automobile hardware and data services. Spreadtrum Communication is one of China's main chip designers and developers, public data show.
