(Yicai Global) Oct. 11 -- The yuan continued to make solid gains against the US dollar, rising to its strongest point in nearly three weeks early this morning as the market embraced the ongoing high-level economic and trade talks between China and the US.

The onshore yuan gained 0.24 percent to 7.0982 as of 9.56 a.m. Beijing time, a strong level not seen since Sept. 23, while the international yuan traded at 7.0947, up 0.18 percent at the same time. The redback has been on a mini-upward trend Since Oct. 8, China's first trading day after the week-long National Day holiday.

China and the US kicked off on Thursday a new round of high-level consultations to address their differences on outstanding economic and trade issues. The talks are expected to conclude later today.
