China’s tax regulator said today that 1,818 individuals, including celebrities and online influencers, have been investigated and penalized this year, with CNY1.5 billion (USD215 million) in taxes recovered. High-income and high-net-worth groups -- those earning over CNY1 million (USD141,475) annually or holding more than CNY10 million (USD1.4 million) in investable assets -- remain key targets of tax oversight.
