China has begun soliciting public feedback on food safety standards for pre-prepared meals, the National Health Commission said today. The draft defines pre-prepared meals as industrially processed, pre-packaged foods made from agricultural ingredients that must be reheated before eating. It excludes staples, pre-cut vegetables, ready-to-eat foods and central-kitchen dishes. It also caps shelf life at 12 months, bans preservatives and calls for minimal use of food additives.
