(Yicai Global) Dec.  28 -- Hong Kong's benchmark stock index today closed almost unchanged  from yesterday to end its worst year since 2011.

The Hang Seng Index finished the last trading day of the year 0.02 percent down at 25,473.98 points. The reading was 14.82 percent lower than where the benchmark started the 12-month period.

The Hong Kong market is highly consistent with that of the US and both economies are bound to slow down, which will further restrain Hong Kong's economic development next year, trading news site East Money reported, citing analysts from Dongxing Securities.

Major Japanese benchmarks ended in the red. The Nikkei 225 Index fell 0.31 percent to 20,014.77 points, walking back 12.08 percent of this year's gains. The Tokyo Stock Price Index closed at 1,494.09, which was 0.5 percent lower. The reading was 17.86 percent down from that in early January.
